“The Eye Foundation has maintained high standards, a constant update of its facilities, technologically and academically. The whole gamut of ophthalmology, in trend with the state of art instrumentation in all the subspecialty clinics, is availed here. The IOL Master – an advanced biometry device and the 980 mm diode laser machines are the latest acquisition adding to the dimensions in management of eye diseases”

Academic pursuits have been striving well with series of enriching workshops conveying various aspects of ophthalmology. Enumerating a few in the last couple of years, are

1) A day with Glaucoma in Sept 2003
2) A two day cataract workshop in Dec 2003
3) Workshop on clinical refraction in Mar 2004
4) Two day workshop on practical ophthalmology in July 2004
5) Workshop for non-ophthalmologist in Aug 2004
6) A work shop on glaucoma in Oct 2004
7) Workshop on retina in July 2005

Besides these it was splattered with innumerable small workshops and CME’s, directed to medical practitioners at the hospital premises and different regions in and around Coimbatore.

The Eye Foundation has been granted 4 seats for DNB course, two for the full 3 year course and the other two for post DO students. Regular teaching programs are strictly scheduled with exposure and training in anterior segment surgeries at the charitable wing of The Eye Foundation, named Rajalakshmi Nethralaya. The well equipped library with standard books, journals, CDs and internet access is in provision.

“A Fellowship programme in Optometry was launched at ‘The Eye Foundation’ on Sunday 18th December 2005. Optometry, a vision saving primary eye care profession and far sighted career has lot of opportunities. The course would be of one year duration for degree holders in Optometry and two years for diploma holders”.

A total of seven candidates would undergo the course, which would be offered free of cost. In addition, the students would also get stipend. The stipend would be Rs. 2000/- per month for the first year and Rs. 2500/- per month for the second year.

A large representation of The Eye Foundation continues in all the regional and national conferences with innumerable symposia's to its credit. The doctors of The Eye Foundation regularly partake in the various international scientific forums at the ASCRS and ESCRS with their scientific papers, conduct symposia's regularly. Dr. Ramamurthy was specially invited both at the Malaysian forum of ophthalmology at KUALA LUMPUR and at CHINA to conduct a day’s workshop on Phakic IOL’s clubbed with live surgeries.

A Glaucoma Workshop was organised by “The Eye Foundation” on Sunday March 5th 2006, in association with the Glaucoma Society of India attended by 200 odd delegates in and around the southern states of Tamil Nadu.

Dr. G.Chandra sekar, President of the Glaucoma Society of India and Chief of Glaucoma services, L.V.Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, Dr.B.K.Nayak, Editor of Indian Journal of Ophthalmology and Chief of Glaucoma services Hinduja Hospitals, Mumbai and Dr. Krishna Das, Chief of Glaucoma services from Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai were our guest faculty. They deliberated on different issues of critical importance in Glaucoma management of today along with the host faculty, Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy, Glaucoma in charge at The Eye Foundation and Dr.Ravi, Glaucoma in charge at Thirumurthy Nethralaya, Tirupur.
