Lasik & Supervision ( Cont...)
Who
can undergo Lasik?
Any person above the age of 18 years whose power is stable for the
last 1 year. There is no upper age limit
Myopia : minus 1 to minus 20 diopters.
Hyperopia : plus 1 to plus 8 diopters.
Astigmatism : upto 8 diopters
Advantages
of Lasik
- No injection
- No prolonged medication
- No surgery
- Totally an out patient procedure
- Treatment over within 10 minutes
- Normal activities can be resumed the next day
- Permanent, once in life time treatment.
- The Recurrence of power is minimal
Pre Treatment Preparations
- Mix a drop of JOHNSON'S BABY shampoo with a couple of drops of water
and clean the lid margin and eyelashes with the same 4 times a day
for 4 days prior to coming for treatment.
- After cleaning apply OFLACIN eye drops 4 times a day in both eyes
for 4 days before the treatment. This is just to clean the eyes.
- Have a head wash and a shave before coming for the treatment.
- Discontinue wearing semi - soft and hard contact lenses for atleast
2 weeks prior to treatment.
- Soft contact lenses preferably should be discontinued for a week
prior to treatment.
- There is no diet restriction. Patients can continue with all their
routine activities right up to the time of coming for treatment.
- There is no other special procedures or clothing required while
coming for the treatment
Post Treatment Care
- After the treatment, the patient would be examined after one hour,
drops applied and the patient sent home.
- A cup that has small holes will be placed on each eye through which
the patient can continue to see. This is mainly placed to prevent
the patient from rubbing the eyes and it can be taken off at home
itself the next day.
- Drops have to be applied for about a week after treatment. There
will be mild redness, irritation and watering immediately after treatment
that usually subsides by next morning.
Direct rubbing of the eyes and splashing water into the eyes is to
be avoided for a week after treatment
Zyoptix
Zyoptix: While Lasik was performing well in moderate
refractive errors, since its inception in 1999 at our centre, newer
understanding of wavefront ablation and the presence of certain aberrations
in the eye which contributed to the quality of vision were realized.
The initial corneal mapping facility gave way to the new sophisticated
tool called Orbscan Topography which could analyse both the anterior
and posterior surface of cornea availing lot more information for selecting
the right candidate. The zywave aberrometer, latest of its kind with
iris recognition feature is available at our centre which calculates
the refractive error and the higher order aberrations along with compensation
for pupil shift, and minimal torsional changes. This information in
a CD format is then fed into the Laser machine. The latest in Zyoptix
correction, the Z-100 Laser machine has been made available at our centre
since March 2004. replacing the earlier Chiron 217 Z which was procurred
3 years earlier.
The salient feature of the Z-100 Lasik machine are the multidimensional
eye trackers which have a frequency of 200 Hz and have the additional
passive Z tracker which further enhances precision of centration in
laser ablation. The Laser delivery frequency itself is upgraded to 200
Hz. Iris recognition at the Zywave aberrometer is again re-recognized
at the Laser prior to treatment, all promising more optimal and accurately
centered correction. The Laser machine and its various components have
all been refined to procure the best towards treatment. Tissue saving
mode is also available with the Z-100 machine which allows higher refractive
error correction with laser.
The Hansatome, now available with us, is the latest upgradation. The
whole composite system also comes with the ZQV charts to measure contrast
sensitivity. This helps us to understand the high standards of vision
obtained after the treatment.
“Till date, we have performed Lasik and zyoptix in more than
15,000 eyes”
